Daryl Sherrod, MD
Primary Care and Family Medicine
Born and raised in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Dr. Sherrod says his desire to become a physician dates back to elementary school. He attended the United States Air Force Academy, studying biology with a minor in engineering, and later completed his Bachelor’s Degree in biology/biological sciences at Georgia State University. Dr. Sherrod received his medical degree from Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University. He participated in a general surgery internship at Georgia Baptist Hospital before completing his family practice residency at Columbus Regional Medical Center.
“With family practice, you never know what you’re going to see,” Dr. Sherrod explains. “It has more variety, which is something I enjoy.”
Amid his wide-range of service, Dr. Sherrod specializes in hypertension and diabetes. With diabetes running in his family, this concentration remains close to his heart. He enjoys treating, managing, and preventing diabetes whenever possible.
Dr. Sherrod is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians. This allows him the opportunity to dig deep into the organizations’ journals and studies to stay current of evidence-based medicine available.
As he puts his knowledge and expertise to use with patients, Dr. Sherrod says he views those relationships as collaborations. His mission is to make sure patients understand what’s going on with their bodies, know what to do, and have the ability to make informed decisions.
“I’ve taken the approach that it’s a team effort,” he says. “The patient is the driver, and I’m the navigator. I can tell you which way to go, but it’s up to you whether you take my advice or not. I try to engage the patient and make them responsible for their own healthcare, to make sure they realize their health is in their hands.”
In his spare time, Dr. Sherrod enjoys photography, travel, yard work, and cycling.
